The Story Behind Vera Bradley

Who would have imagined that over 20 years ago a friendship and a simple idea would grow into the company Vera Bradley has become today? So many things have worked in their favor: having a great idea at the right time, a good name (after Barbara's mother), and so many friends who helped them launch what has truly become an American dream success story.

It all started while they were on a vacation in March of 1982, awaiting a flight in Atlanta's International Airport. As they sat there, theywere amazed at the lack of attractive and feminine carry-on luggage in the crowd. And that's when it hit them! Within weeks, Vera Bradley was born and they began marketing and manufacturing the first products from their small "factory" in Barbara's basement. Ever since, they've continued to grow, and Vera Bradley is now nationally and internationally recognized.
